The Biggest Destination Wedding Lie – Don’t Fall For It.

Spoiler alert: destination weddings are not stress-free.

That’s the lie everyone tells you. Instagram tells you. Wedding blogs tell you. Even some resorts tell you. Destination weddings are stress-free, they say. Easier. More relaxed. You get to skip all the vendor coordination and just show up.

Here’s the truth: you’re asking the people you love most to fly to a different country – to celebrate with you on one of the most important days of your life. You’re coordinating international travel. You’re managing timelines across time zones. You’re navigating resort contracts written in hospitality language, not wedding language. You’re handling room blocks and attrition clauses and comp policies that nobody explains until you’re already inside them.

If you don’t feel some stress about that, I’m checking your pulse.

The difference between a destination wedding that works and one that doesn’t isn’t the “absence of stress”… it’s whether that stress is organized or chaotic. Let’s call it stress-adjacent.

Sure, you can manage all of it yourself. You can decode the hospitality language. You can track deadlines from two different teams operating on different timelines. You can answer guest questions about deadlines and wedding details and travel logistics. You can figure out what attrition means and why it matters. I am not doubting that.

But managing both sides – the resort contracts and the guest experience and the timeline coordination – is a full time job. If that sounds like more than you want to take on, a destination wedding professional who specializes in travel and logistics can be your single point of contact. Someone who knows the resort side and the guest side. Someone who understands the nuances in how these pieces actually connect.
