Planning a destination wedding is exciting — but also overwhelming. Between guest logistics, resort contracts, and figuring out where to even begin, most couples have a lot of questions. And I get it. That’s literally why I do what I do.
I’m Dana Braun, founder of Aisle + Away Travel Co. I specialize in destination weddings, honeymoons, and curated group travel to Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and beyond. And after years of helping couples get married somewhere unforgettable, I can confidently say: these are the 10 questions I hear most.
Here’s what I tell them — and maybe, what you needed to hear too.
Jump To Question:
1. Do I really need a destination wedding travel advisor?
2. Is there a fee to work with you?
3. Why are we seeing “free” wedding agents?
4. What are the best places to have a destination wedding?
5. Can we have a symbolic ceremony instead of legal?
6. How far in advance should we start planning?
7. Do you help our guests too?
8. What time of year is best for a destination wedding?
9. Do you plan small weddings or elopements too?
10. What makes you different from a regular travel agent?
Do I really need a destination wedding travel advisor?
Yes. Unless you want to decode contracts, answer 14 group texts a day, and chase your cousin’s missing passport — you probably want someone in your corner. Planning a wedding in another country comes with layers of logistics most couples never consider until it’s too late. That’s where I come in.
As your destination wedding travel advisor, I handle the resort communication, contract review, guest management, travel quotes, and booking process. I also help you navigate timelines, inclusions, and small decisions that can make a big impact. You get to be excited about your wedding instead of overwhelmed by it
Is there a fee to work with you?
Yes — and it’s worth every penny. My planning fee covers expert resort matchmaking, quote strategy, contract navigation, guest support, and full trip coordination. You’re not just paying for bookings — you’re paying for sanity.
I bring structure to the chaos, help you avoid expensive missteps, and ensure your guests feel cared for without putting everything on your plate. Think of it as investing in a smoother, smarter, more supported planning experience from start to finish.
Why do we keep seeing “free” wedding agents?
The real question is: how can they offer to do all that work for free? When you see someone advertising “free wedding planning,” it’s usually because weddings aren’t their main focus and they’re looking for a bulk payday, or its a large corporation where you’ll be passed from rep to rep during the process — often meaning the work isn’t truly personalized or high-touch.
What you’re really paying for when you hire a professional like me is experience, knowledge, and full-service support. I’m not just chasing a booking. I bring years of insight, vetted relationships, and concierge-level organization that saves you time, stress, and costly mistakes. Free often means rushed, templated, and reactive — and your wedding deserves more than that.
What are the best places to have a destination wedding?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — and that’s a good thing. The best destination for your wedding depends on your guest count, travel needs, budget, and the kind of energy you want to create. That said, some locations rise to the top again and again: Mexico (especially Riviera Maya and Cabo) is a favorite for its modern resorts, wedding perks, and easy access. Jamaica offers laid-back charm, strong culture, and beautiful beach venues. The Dominican Republic is a top choice for value-packed all-inclusives with big group options.
For couples craving adventure or lush nature, Costa Rica brings a whole different vibe — think rainforests, gardens, and eco-luxe resorts. I also plan weddings in Hawaii, Fiji, and the South Pacific for couples looking for something further flung or ultra-romantic. Wherever you’re drawn to, I help you match the destination and resort to your vision, group dynamics, and priorities. The goal? A wedding that feels like you — with a location that adds magic instead of stress.
Can we have a symbolic ceremony instead of legal?
Absolutely. In fact, most of my couples choose this route. Getting legally married in another country often involves extra paperwork, residency requirements, translation costs, and legal delays that can cause stress.
With a symbolic ceremony, you handle the legal marriage at home (quietly, if you like), and then have the full celebration abroad — complete with vows, ceremony setup, and all the emotional weight, minus the red tape.
How far in advance should we start planning?
Ideally 12–18 months before your preferred date. The earlier you start, the more availability you’ll have on resort options, group rates, room categories, and wedding venues.
That said, I’ve pulled off successful weddings with shorter timelines — but they come with trade-offs. Planning ahead gives you more control, more time to communicate with guests, and often better pricing.
Do you help our guests too?
Yes — and they’ll love you for it. I provide custom travel quotes, clear booking links, and email reminders so you don’t have to be the point person for 40+ people.
When guests have questions about flights, passports, payments, or travel insurance, they come to me — not you. That alone is worth it. You get to focus on enjoying your engagement while I handle the details.
What time of year is best for a destination wedding?
The best time to plan a destination wedding depends on where you’re going and what you care about most — weather, pricing, or vibe. In general, November through April is considered high season across Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. You’ll get warm, dry weather and more buzz around the resort — but also higher prices and quicker sell-outs for room blocks and venues. If your dream is sun, clear skies, and lots of guests, this is your window.
That said, May through October can be a great opportunity for lower rates, more relaxed resort energy, and better availability — especially if you’re open to some warmth, humidity, or quick tropical showers. Hurricane season peaks from late August to October, but not every location is impacted equally. I help my couples weigh the pros and cons, explore shoulder-season sweet spots, and choose a date that aligns with their vision and their guest dynamics. It’s not just about “perfect weather” — it’s about the experience you’re trying to create.
Do you plan small weddings or elopements too?
Absolutely. I love intimate celebrations just as much as big groups. Whether it’s just the two of you or a few close loved ones, I help you find a stunning resort or off-site venue that aligns with your vibe.
Elopements are also a beautiful way to go big — not in size, but in experience. They give you the freedom to choose extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime locations like overwater bungalows in Fiji, cliffside hideaways in the South Pacific, or private villas tucked into the jungle in Costa Rica. If you’re looking for something more adventurous, emotional, or just deeply personal, elopements are an incredible chance to design your day your way — and I’ll help you make it unforgettable.
What makes you different from a regular travel agent?
I specialize in celebrations. This isn’t just about booking a trip — it’s about curating a joyful, memorable, low-stress event that actually reflects you. I don’t just send you a link and wish you luck. I guide you through every decision, help you understand what matters most, and act as your wedding concierge from day one.
I also bring nearly a decade of experience, certifications from leading travel and wedding organizations, and deep, first-hand knowledge of the destinations I recommend. I’ve personally toured over 100 resorts, cultivated direct relationships with on-site teams, and developed a strategy-first planning system that works. This isn’t a side hustle — it’s what I do, full-time, with care and excellence.
